Will Draper's Custom Factor SLiCK Disc

Will Draper is a 21-year old professional triathlete from the Isle of Man, currently undertaking his first full year as a professional. In July, he travelled to Norfolk to compete in the Outlaw Triathlon Professional 70.3 race at Holkham Hall, finishing in 4th in a very competitive field. Next up on the schedule, Will is targeting Challenge Davos in August and Ironman 70.3 in Nice.

Take a closer look at Will's custom Factor SLiCK Disc below and read our Q&A about his season and the inspiration behind the bike design.

What are your key targets for this year?

This season is all about racing as much as possible - I want to gain experience which can be built upon in future training. I doubt there are any professional triathletes who have done less triathlons than me (approximately 10 - 15 races and only 3 middle distance triathlons) thanks to entering the sport as a high level cyclist and Covid reducing race opportunities.

How have you prepared for your step up this year?

I’ve been a lot more consistent with my training with high volume and structure that would be typical of a professional triathlete, rather than just ‘consistent’.

What do you think of your new SLiCK?

My new SLiCK is awesome! I’ve moved across from the rim brake version to disc brake and immediately felt the benefits. When racing I’m often going into corners really fast so it’s nice to know that come rain or shine I have enough braking force to slow me down as much as I want.

The bike is seriously fast and has actually allowed me to focus on my swimming and running as I know it doesn’t require much power to achieve great average speeds and some of the best bike splits in the races I’m doing.

What is special about the paint scheme?

I worked with Factor Bikes UK to customise my SLiCK and make it unique to me and my home nation of the Isle of Man. The frameset features raw carbon under clear lacquer with red detailing in addition to the three legs of man flag which symbolises ‘whichever way you throw me - I will stand’.
